ARTIST SPOTLIGHT JONATHON ZAWADA
by Mila Phelps Friedl
You may know the name Jonathon Zawada from his work with artists like Flume, The Avalanches and Dua Lipa… or from his well-established presence in both the commercial animation and fine art realms. In the context of MoDA, Zawada most recently participated in the November pop-up “Unsolicited Airdrop” where he sold 10 of his vivid “Fisherian Runaways,” a series of Digital Mushrooms, for a final combined auction price of $22,754.
Born in Perth, Australia, Zawada’s style is described as…” [a] blend between the artificial and the natural, Zawada's world is hyperreal - delicate and intricately detailed, as well as bold and dynamic.” A man of many artistic faces, with a background in web design and coding, over the course of his career, Zawada has moved into contemporary art installations, commercial graphic design, illustration, art and video direction, as well as the tangible artforms of furniture design, sculpture, video, installation and oil painting.
Known for both his analog and digital methods, Zawada has worked on collaborations with a wide variety of clients including Apple, Nike, Adidas, BMW, Samsung, Bloomberg and Herman Miller. Check out “Fisherian Runaways'' on instagram or on Hicetnunc.art, a huge thank you to Jonathon for featuring ten of these works exclusively at the MoDA show. Zawada will be once again featured as part of MoDA’s “The Temporal Gallery” show, happening at Art Basel 2021 starting November 30 - December 05.
